On September 18, 2020, Jun.-Prof. Dr. Henning Wachsmuth from the Paderborn University will give a SFB-lecture about "Machines that Argue: Advances in Natural Language Argument Generation" in the context of the SFB 901.

Abstract:

Computational methods for processing natural language arguments are receiving more and more attention in research, due to their expected impact on future search engines and intelligent assistants. On one hand, these methods find arguments in large text collections, classify their stance on controversial issues, and assess their quality. On the other hand, methods are developed that summarize or modify existing arguments, that compose these arguments in new ways, or that even create entirely new arguments. This raises the question as to whether machines can actually contribute new perspectives to human debates. Starting from basics of argumentation, this talk will present recent advances in computational argument generation, based on research of the Computational Social Science group at Paberborn University.
