Prestigious award for Tibor Jager, member of the CRC 901

On July 27, 2018, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tibor Jager has received the ERC Starting Grant -- one of the highest European research grants -- from the European Research Council.

The European Research Council (ERC) is providing around 1.5 million euros over the next five years to support cutting-edge research at the Paderborn University. Computer scientist Prof. Dr.-Ing. Tibor Jager has been awarded with an ERC Starting Grant for excellent young scientists, which is part of the EU's Horizon 2020 programme.

Tibor Jager, head of the research group for IT security, has convinced the jury with his project "REWOCRYPT - Theoretically-Sound Real-World Cryptography". The project is located at the interface of theoretical and practical cryptography and deals, among other things, with secure communication technologies for an increasingly networked society. The aim of the project is also to provide the basis for appropriate security analyses of future cryptosystems.

The background: Modern technologies such as Industry 4.0 or Cloud Computing may create innovative applications, but at the same time the risk of security gaps increases. "This means that new mechanisms are urgently needed whose security properties go far beyond classic requirements," said Jager. "The funding recognizes and further advances Paderborn's research in the field of computer science."

We sincerely congratulate Tibor Jager for this prestigious award!
